Watertown, Sioux Falls Christian win class AA, A South Dakota girls state golf titles

Watertown and Sioux Falls Christian won the AA and A South Dakota high school girls golf state championships on Tuesday.

Watertown won the Class AA championship by three strokes over Mitchell, last year’s champion. 

O’Gorman and Lincoln finished fourth and fifth. The Knights finished 26 strokes over the Patriots. Jefferson finished in ninth while Brandon Valley and Harrisburg finished 11 and 13 in Class AA.

Mitchell’s Allison Meyerink won the Class AA individual state championship after losing it in dramatic fashion last year. Meyerink defeated Aberdeen Central’s Olivia Braun by one stroke to claim the title.

O’Gorman freshman Erin Hurd finished tied for third after finishing eighth last year, shooting 12 over par.

In Class A, Sioux Falls Christian finished in first, 32 shots better than second place Vermillion.  This is the fourth consecutive year the Chargers have won the state championship.

West Central finished third, 28 shots behind Vermillion.

St. Thomas More’s Kaitlin Strain won the Class A individual state title. 

Sioux Falls Christian sophomore Tori Peterson tied for second place with West Central’s Ari Jacobs. 

Chargers senior Cecilia VanDenTop finished fourth, just one shot ahead of Lennox’s Ashlee Sweeter.
